Earlier this year (March 2020), BMW replaced her logo by a new flattened, simplified version of her previous 3D classic emblem, following the existing design trend. There is a controversy as to whether this new ambiguous, transparent, flat logo is equivalent to the company’s prestigious Image. The main argument is that the car manufacturer traded the classic for the trendy, and this disappointed many of the brand fans, that will have to see this badge every day on their future cars (…)
Since we wrote this article, many readers asked REBRAND to design an alternative to BMW’s new logo. We accepted the task and to make it more challenging we decided to design an improved version of the new BMW logo, and not built from scratch. This, in order to demonstrate that following the same design path there are ways to make a futuristic badge look more balanced, prestigious, combine trendy with classic, create a logo usable in every occasion. We proudly present you our new redesigned BMW logo:
Logo design details:
Shape: Slightly curved surface / Outer circle: glass content with metallic outline
Blue color is metallic/iridescent and white is pearl white color / Letters and central circle are slightly curved on the edges.
The badge is positioned a few mm above the hood surface (on an invisible spacer base, mushroom-like side view). The shape is robust, solid, continuous. The design is flat, but it allows light through its glass and creates a 3D effect. The shadows caused by the light through the slightly tinted glass create a darker surrounding of the Bavarian blue and white colors, resembling the black of its ancestor classic badge. It is distinct, transparent, futuristic, simple, clear and classy. In this way it combines the classic with the trendy, it is immediately recognizable, and it reflects the superiority of the brand.
